Notifying OPG of a death

Before 12 January 2023 it was necessary to send a death certificate to the Office of the Public Guardian to notify them of death. This is no longer the case. Whilst we need to write to the OPG to advise them of a death they will now verify the death through the Post Office Life Event Verification system.

You will only be asked to send in a death certificate if there has been an issue with verification.

You still need to return the original lasting powers, enduring power or deputyship orders for cancellation or amendment.
